MICHAEL JAMESON WINSHIP is a life-long resident of the Greater Orlando area. He was born and raised in Apopka, Florida, and grew up drawing, painting, and creating with mixed-media. The son of a custom woodworker, Michael frequently accompanied his father on-the-job as a child. He soon became skilled at using saws and power tools. As a young adult, Michael quickly earned a reputation among area business owners for both his artist vision and ability to execute his designs. Michael spent over a decade designing and building primarily bars and nightclubs in Downtown Orlando. In 2009, Michael stepped away from interior design projects to realize his life-long dream of creating sculpted, functional art and furniture. Michael envisioned Jameson Winship to house his designs.
Inspired by the bower – the nest-like shelter of the bowerbird – Michael designs conversation pieces for the home. The bower is an architectural marvel that the bowerbird carefully crafts and furnishes with collections of organic matter found in nearby regions of its natural habitat, the rainforest. The bowerbird’s ultimate goal is to attract and impress a mate. He selectively gathers limbs, flowers, and other bits and pieces of his surrounding environment that are pleasing to his eye, with no two bowers appearing alike.

The Creatures collection is an assortment of hand-sculpted tables, seating, and lighting with organic lines and silhouettes emulating nature. The various pieces give a surreal appearance they are possibly crawling, floating, oozing, or melting before you. One might even expect to find a piece repositioned in the room after being left unattended for a moment or two.
Each Creature is constructed from stacks of rough plywood templates, which are affixed into a solid block. The largest Creature began as over 300 separate, puzzle-like templates. Once in its composite preliminary form, the excess material is delicately carved away to reveal the Creature’s intended shape.
The final finishing stages consist of days of sanding and sealing. The end result is a classic, satin-feeling finish to the touch, with a natural, veneer-like finish to the eye.
